Colorful Round Rock Chalk Walk Festival set for Oct. 5-6
Tuesday, October 2, 2018
Taking place on Fri., Oct. 5 and Sat., Oct. 6, the Chalk Walk Arts Festival is Round Rock’s largest festival for the arts, drawing tens of thousands of people to the city’s lively downtown over the course of two days.
Highlighting this event are hundreds of artists who showcase their amazing talents by creating beautiful sidewalk murals. In the Chalk Walk Artist Battle, 10 artists will battle head-to-head to create a masterpiece, with a winner-take-all prize.
Many school teams will also take part in the festival, including students from Round Rock ISD’s Stony Point High School, where many Teravista students attend.
In addition to the sidewalk chalk murals, the Chalk Walk Arts Festival will showcase many local artists and artisans, community performers, non-profits, and businesses.
New for 2018, the festival will include children’s activities in the Sprouts Kids Zone. The School of Rock stage will feature youth performances in music, dance and theater.
There will be live music concerts on both nights. On Friday, Austin’s own The South Austin Moonlighters will perform their signature blend of blues, folk, soul, rock and country. On Saturday, another Austin band, Vallejo, will stage their melting pot fusion of classic album rock mixed with contagious funky rhythms and Latin percussion.
Another highlight will be the Round Rock Culinary Arts Showcase, featuring young chefs in training from Round Rock High School and Cedar Ridge High School. For a $10 donation, with proceeds going to both schools, festivalgoers can enjoy multiple delicious tastings.
